Helena Hettema’s show Divas Divine – Inside Out was launched at the 2005 National Arts Festival, Grahamstown to critical acclaim. This show is a jazzy tribute to the tragedy, lives and pathos of singers such as Joan Baez, Nina Simone, Billy Holiday, Marianne Faithfull, Joplin, Piaf as well as Janis Ian, Marlene Diettrich and Miriam Makeba.

2005 saw Helena net three awards: the GMT SABC 2 Award for the Best Solo Female Vocalist 2005 for her CD Divided Heart, The Herald Showtime Award 2005 for the best cabaret for the show Divided Heart at The PE Opera House and Vonk Magazine’s Best Album of the Year (female) – second to Laurika Rauch.

In “Divas Divine”, Helena who was awarded a Laureate in 2007 by her alma mater, the University of Pretoria for outstanding achievement in the Arts and who is also a Vita and SAMA nominee, takes one on a musical journey to experience the pathos, tragedy and humour in the lives of some of the world’s greatest divas of song. It provides a glimpse behind the scenes into the private lives hidden behind the public image of these great divas.

From as early as grade two at  primary school , Kevin started performing in lead  roles in School plays.

During his Primary and Secondary tuition he competed in arts festivals and national competitions in which he received numerous gold and A++ awards.

In secondary school he received a study bursary from the Afrikaans Taal en Kultuur Vereniging (ATKV) to study drama.

During his military service he was chosen through national auditions , as one of four singers in the David Gospel ensemble for the South African Defense Force, and toured the country for the duration of his service, performing an excess of  120 shows per annum.

During his tertiary Theology studies at the University of Pretoria , he took part in numerous singing competitions with great success and started his own music ministry group , performing nationally.

He released his debut album in 1995 and started his professional singing career.

In 1997 he started the very popular group  “Three of the best” in which he included two of his professional-singer-friends ,Danie Niehaus and Mathys Roets , with whom he performed in excess of  60 performances per annum and releasing four top selling albums and a DVD.

In 2001 he released his album “VOCE” through the SONY/BMG record label.
Since 2001 he received voice training from the acclaimed singers and Vocal coaches, Ina Snyman, and Eugeni Copin .Presently Kevin is receiving Vocal training from the World renowned Dr Emma Renzzi. In 2006 he is aiming his Magical Dramatic Lyric Tenor voice at Europe. In June of this year , he competed in the International Opera Competition of Italy – VALSESIA MUSICA – near Milan and won the Fourth prize. At the Winners concert , the President of the competition introduced him as  “Pavarotti e Pocco” or “Little Pavarotti”.

An enthusiastic team of chefs is responsible for overseeing the very important task of ensuring guests every need is catered for, while considerable thought and meticulous planning goes into making up the menus. Unlike many of the great trains of the world, travellers are on board the trains for several days at a time, requiring a much wider selection of meals. There's an accent on fresh local ingredients, and traditional dishes such as game are a specialty. Every morning there's a full breakfast with dishes cooked to order. A selection of cold meats, croissants, pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals and preserves make up a tempting breakfast buffet. For lunch and dinner there is a starter and a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian dishes, followed by a tempting dessert and are complemented by a selection of excellent South African wines. All meals are served in one sitting only in the charming Victorian atmosphere of the Dining Cars. Many of the passengers aboard the Pride of Africa enjoy the formality of fine china, crisp linen and silver, and dress accordingly.During the day dress is more casual, with cool, comfortable clothes and hats recommended for the excursions, especially in the game reserves where it can be very hot. The Observation Car seats 32 passengers and is positioned at the rear of the train. At the centre of the train we have, when numbers dictate, a non-smoking Lounge Car, which seats 26 passengers in comfort. In maintaining the spirit of travel of a bygone era, there are no radios or television sets onboard.

Smaller Luxury Cruiser - The Rand Water Cruiser:

Larger Luxury Cruiser - The Royal Stonehaven:

  • (comfortably 30 - 40 delegates - depending on seating layout)
  • R995.00 for the first hour and R495.00 for every hour thereafter.
  • The Cruisers are equipped with Screens, Video Machine, TV, Overhead Projector, Flip Charts, and White Boards. They are the only Conference Equipped Cruisers on the Vaal.

The Spirit of Jen:

  • Brand new, ultra luxury Cruiser that can take 150 comfortably seated (different seating configurations allows up to 200). Full audio visual equipment on board including proxima. Very quiet and most suitable for presentations and conferences with a significant difference. It is priced differently to the above Cruisers. It is on a per person rate per hour. It is R53.00 p/p for a 1-hour Cruise, R77.00 p/p for a 2-hour Cruise and R95.00 p/p for a 3-hour Cruise. Any additional hour over 3-hours is billed at R1500.00 per hour.
